Periodontics
Periodontics is a medical-surgical dental specialty that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the tissues that support the teeth.
Periodontal diseases are pathologies that affect the periodontium, i.e., the tissues that support the teeth. They are infectious diseases caused by bacteria.
There are two main groups of periodontal diseases:
Gingivitis, which causes inflammation of the gums, and periodontitis, which causes destruction of the tissues that support the teeth.
An accurate diagnosis is essential, as are maintenance check-ups.
Diagnosis is crucial in these cases, so during your first consultation you will be diagnosed and the cause of the disease will be identified, and you will be advised on the ideal treatment for your case, whether that be medication, scaling and root planing, or periodontal surgery.
